THE SWAN SONG FAN EDIT
My goal was to restore all the uncut original scenes, as well as the “Swan Song” logos as they were meant to be seen before the film had to be optically modified right before its release due to a lawsuit with Led Zeppelin (all the “Swan Song” logos throughout the film had to be replaced with the infamous “dead bird” one, and some scenes had to be trimmed or deleted). The original film material seemed to be lost forever, until the owner of the amazing Swan Archive website acquired some of the original 35mm camera negatives, had them digitized and previewed some of the footage on his website. Thanks to his generosity, I was able to re-edit the film the way it was meant to be seen, and to reinsert the original “PHANTOM” title, as well as the missing gore shot of Winslow escaping the warehouse. Note that despite the digital corrections used, the quality between the film and the extended/unseen bits greatly varies: the newly added parts aren’t perfect due to the source’s quality (10fps .flv files). Therefore, this version of “Phantom” is mostly recommended for completists and fans of this amazing film.

The altered DVD audio mix has been replaced with the original audio mix from the 1988 US Laserdisc (re-synched and remastered), which is more dynamic and truer to the film’s original version.

THE 1920s EDITION
A very different looking version of Amazming's excellent fan edit. This new version still presents Joel Schumacher's 2004 film resynched to the original London cast recording of the musical (feat. Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford), but the whole film has been altered to look like an old film print from the 1920s. An homage to both the 1925 film version with Lon Chaney and to the original cast of Sir Lloyd Webber's muscial, this "1920s Edition" is presented with two separate audio tracks : One featuring a remastered version of the original London cast recording in pristine quality, and one featuring that same recording in a vintage sounding "old and damaged" quality, fitting the look of this 1920s edition. Many thanks and much credits to Amazming, for his original Phantom Resynched fan edit which this edit is based on.

ABOUT THIS RELEASE

Out of the many different editions of Suspiria released on video since 1978, none was ever true to the film's visuals and sounds. The best looking and most faithful print was the one used for the 2001 anchor bay 3-dvd set, yet it suffered from its very poor encoding, and had a truncated soundtrack (with missing sound effects, music, and sometimes inaudible dialogues). All the recently released Blu Ray versions were created using a horribly recolored print (approved by the talented yet either senile or money hungry director of photography, Luciano Tovoli), and used terrible noise reduction. The result looked more like an amateur HD upscale than a proper blu ray, and was highly criticized and loathed by purists and fans of the film. So was the infamous red dog... This new preservation edition intents to present argento's masterpiece the way it was seen back in 1977 for its original release: the film was restored shot by shot to its original colors, tints and contrasts. The sound mix has been carefully recreated and restored, using the best elements from various sources, and is now presented in its original 4 tracks stereo audio mix. As a respectful fan of the film and its masterful and innovative photography, I consider this preservation to be the best, most authentic version available so far.

ABOUT THIS EDIT
My intent making this edit was to transform Guy Ritchie’s notoriously lame flick into a much better, shorter film, bringing the subject and tone closer to the original 1974 film it’s based on. I heightened the politically incorrect violence towards the main female character (played by an infamously wooden Madonna), and expurgated most of the useless cheesy dialogue, cartoonish scenes, and plot lines. The story is now more concise and straight to the point. The overall look has also been altered to make it look more like an exploitation flick from the 70s. The soundtrack has also been reworked.

CUTS
Too many to list (over 200 editing points). Some scenes were completely cut, some were just trimmed while all but one of the deleted scenes were re-inserted. A few shots from the 1974 original by Lina Wertmuller were also inserted. Sound effects and musical cues were added and additional songs incorporated.

The intent of this fan edit was to make a shorter and even stronger film by completely removing the plotline about Selma escaping reality by day-dreaming musical numbers. The five musical numbers have been completely deleted, and some shots and scenes have been re-arranged, in order to create a film completely set in reality. The violence and drama of the film is therefore greatly heightened, and Björk's talent is now solely limited to acting. The result is, like the original film, a heart-wrenching experience, closer in tone to Lars Von Trier's two first "Heart Of Gold" films, and features what was recognized as one of the most overwhelming acting performance of all time, by screen debutante Björk. Dancer In The Dark received the Gold Palm and the Best Actress award at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.

Every added shot has been color-corrected and cleaned, and the film's soundtrack has been completely remastered and reworked. This is a brand new edit done in 2009, not the low-quality 2004 edit previously available on FanEdit. I started from scratch in order to deliver a high quality, coherent and longer edit of the film, finally including some never-before-used footage, making this the ultimate Nightmare edit, completed by a second DVD of bonus materials (cf. details below). The DVD includes animated menus and chapters.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET : THE BEGINNING

An original fan edit of the "Freddy's Nightmare" pilot episode directed by Tobe Hooper, "No More Mr. Nice Guy". Not the best fan-edit ever done, but certainly a vast improvement over the original version of that pilot, and a nice complement to the film's extended cut on Disc1. (41'07)

- The whole feature has been color corrected, and framed shot-by-shot to a widescreen 1.85 aspect ratio, for a more cinematic experience.

- Music cues from Nightmare 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 have been added all through this new edit, sometimes replacing the lame TV score.

- The titles and the intro have been completely redone.

- We now can see the photos of Freddy's unfortunate victims during his trial.

- The cheap "8-bit" filters used for Freddy's P.O.V. have been enhanced to look more film-like.

- The dialogue between the angry parents outside the tribunal has been trimmed down.

- A full moon behind Krueger lurking around the Blockers' house has been inserted.

- Lt. Blocker's cheesy dream sequence is completely cut.

- End credits completely redone, based on those of Nightmare IV, synched to Iggy & The Stooges.

This grindhouse edition presents this Frank Oz musical with its infamous original 25 minutes deleted ending reinserted into the film (featuring the death of Audrey 1; the lost musical number "Don't Feed The Plants"; and the destruction of New York by the carnivorous, mean green mothers from outer-space), and brings to this 1986 remake a black and white, "grindhouse" look, similar to that of an old print of the original 1960 Roger Corman classic.
