THE EXORCIST · 35MM THEATRICAL 4K RESTORATION
Dare to experience The Exorcist as it was in 1973...
(physical Blu-ray release)
IMDB · USA · 1973
director : William Friedkin.
cast : Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Max Von Sydow.
A brand-new 4K 2026 restoration that takes you back to the terrifying roots of one of cinema’s most iconic horror films to create the most faithful presentation possible.
No spider-walk.
No added scenes.
No altered colours.
No revised sound design.
No blue filters on the exorcism.
No questionable morphing effects.
This is the original 1973 theatrical edit, with its intended tints and contrasts, in a much higher definition than WB's Blu-ray and 4K discs, and presented in an open-matte format (1.57:1), revealing more of the original frame than any previous home-video release. This is the raw, unfiltered film as audiences experienced it in 1973, before decades of revisions, regradings and digital alterations.
This transfer is sourced from two different 53-year-old film prints, complete with some scratches inherent to 35mm projection. Far from being distracting, these, combined with the superior transfer, make this version leagues better than the official releases - no contest - and make for a rather memorable viewing experience for fans of this classic.
The film’s original Academy Award-winning mono soundtrack has also been meticulously restored and is presented via a lossless 24-bit PCM track, retaining the distinctive sound design and haunting atmosphere of William Friedkin’s original theatrical presentation.
Created in response to what is widely considered to be unnecessary alterations found in successive home-video releases, this restoration seeks to return The Exorcist to its most authentic form: the film that terrified audiences 53 years ago.
