For the first time in decades, The Exorcist is presented in an unofficial 2026 restoration built from two original 35mm prints dating from 1973, carefully combined and mastered to 4K to create the most faithful presentation possible.
No added scenes.

No overbright color scheme.
This is the original theatrical edit, with its intended colours, tints and contrasts, in a much higher definition than WB's bluray and 4K discs, presented in an open-matte 1.57:1 format, revealing more of the original frame than any previous home-video release ; the raw, unfiltered film as audiences experienced it in 1973, before decades of revisions, regradings and digital alterations.
The film’s original Academy Award-winning mono soundtrack has also been meticulously preserved in uncompressed HD form, retaining the distinctive sound design and haunting atmosphere of William Friedkin’s original theatrical presentation.
Created in response to what is widely considered to be unnecessary alterations found in successive Warner home-video releases, this restoration seeks to return The Exorcist to its most authentic form : the film that terrified audiences 53 years ago.
This special edition will be released exclusively as a limited physical Blu-ray before the end of 2026.
