A new, darker edit of “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare”.
This edit aims to deliver a darker, scarier, more visceral and serious take of the film, closer in tone to the original 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' (1984). Over 120 edits were made to create a more intense and violent film. Almost twenty minutes of footage were removed - including lagging shots, corny dialogue, questionable acting and weak visual effects - dramatically altering the tone of the movie. Some sequences have been restructured (for instance, the highway scene is now completely Freddy-free), while others were cut entirely. A new opening sequence has been created. Many of Freddy’s one-liners have been removed, restoring him to the almost silent, menacing figure he once was. The entire film has been color-corrected : Freddy’s dream world now resembles the burning, claustrophobic inferno glimpsed in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 : Dream Warriors', while the real-world scenes adopt a more cinéma-vérité aesthetic in keeping with the film’s meta tone. A brand-new 5.1 audio mix featuring alternate sound effects and numerous musical cues sourced from across the Nightmare series has been created, resulting in a new cohesive soundtrack. The end credits, newly rescored with two fan-favorite tracks, include rare behind-the-scenes footage and alternate takes. This edit is respectfully dedicated to the memory of Wes Craven.
